Despite this I have been very active pursuing rock climbing as my primary sport, with running and triathlon as my side sports. Climbing has been very liberating for me as an amputee, being outside in beautiful places, experiencing adventure, and working towards a goal was something that was missing in my life before I f&#111&#117&#110d climbing, after I lost my leg. It has been my bi&#103&#103&#101st passion. Meeting other amputees like myself wa&#115&#32&#114eally pivotal in my time as an amputee. It made me&#32&#114&#101alize that the only limits we have are the ones th&#97&#116&#32we set for ourselves. It is not always possible fo&#114&#32&#97mputees to meet others in their same situation. I &#115&#97&#119 the opportunity to put together a video project t&#104&#97&#116 would tell and story and inspire others at the sa&#109&#101&#32time. It could be spread through the internet and &#111&#116&#104er avenues freely. Amputee Climbing: The Ronnie Di&#99&#107&#115on Project was formed from this idea. I believe t&#104&#97&#116 climbing is a very accesible sport for persons wi&#116&#104&#32disabilities. Aside from focus<s></s>ing on my personal c&#108&#105&#109bing, I have been working on hosting adaptive clim&#98&#105&#110g clinics across the country to introduce other pe&#114&#115&#111ns with disabilities to climbin<s></s>g. My aspiration i&#115&#32&#116o become the first amputee to boulder V10. Current&#108&#121&#32I am bouldering V7 working into the V8 range. Tha&#110&#107&#32you and I hope you enjoy the video.

Paul recently sent “Big Paw” V15 in Chironico, Switzerland. This was the fou&#114&#116&#104 ascent of the line (1st – Dave Graham, <s></s>2nd – Dai Koyomada 3rd – Adam Ondra). Congratulatio&#110&#115&#32to PRob on his latest!

Big Paw is a large prow in&#32&#67&#104ironico. The climb begins low and climbs the prow &#116&#111&#32its point at approximately 15 feet off the ground.&#32&#66&#105g Paw is one of the most exciting and amazing clim&#98&#115&#32I have ever climbed on. The beginning is very hard&#32&#97&#110d powerful and the top is te<s></s>chnical and crimpy. I &#99&#108&#105mbed the full line in 3 days and had to brush snow&#32&#111&#102f of the top out last night to make it possible to&#32&#99&#108imb on today. It was so cold today that the remain&#105&#110&#103 snow on the top out did not melt which made it po&#115&#115&#105ble for me to make the ascent. I have 20 days left&#32&#105&#110 Switzerland and way too many boulders I want to c&#108&#105&#109b!

~Paul

UPDATE:

Yesterday, I managed to make the&#32&#102&#111urth<s></s> ascent of Dave Graham’s “Big Paw” in Ch&#105&#114&#111nico. This line has been one that I have been real&#108&#121&#32psyched to climb on ever since first seeing it a l&#105&#116&#116le over 2 years ago. I climbed the stand start, &#156&#66&#111ogalaga” about a month ago and was psyched to co&#109&#101&#32back and try the sit. With so many other boulders &#105&#110&#32CH to try it took me until the other day to get ba&#99&#107&#32to work the moves out on the sit.<s></s> I quickly figure&#100&#32&#111ut a nice sequence that worked for me and came ver&#121&#32&#99lose to sending that day.

Snow was in the forecast&#32&#102&#111r the next day but fortunately the weather said it&#32&#119&#111uld never be above freezing. That night I wandered&#32&#111&#117t to the boulder at around 10 pm with a hand-made&#32&#98&#114oom in hand along with my head lamp<s></s> and lantern. I&#32&#109&#97naged to clean a bit of an exit area in which to t&#111&#112&#32out if I managed to send the following day.

The fo&#108&#108&#111wing day was perfect. It was freezing cold and nev&#101&#114&#32went above freezing so the remaining snow on the t&#111&#112&#32out didn<s></s>t drip. I managed to send that afternoo&#110&#32&#97nd endured one of the scariest and iciest top outs&#32&#111&#102 my life. I crawled to the peak of the boulder gra&#115&#112&#105ng chunks of snow and ice. But none of it mattered&#44&#32&#73 was so psyched to have sent such a brilliant line&#32&#119&#105th my good friend mickey and dave jones there. The&#32&#100&#97y was perfec<s></s>t and I could not have asked for more &#112&#101&#114fect conditions.

I am exhausted today and will be &#114&#101&#115ting. I still have a few climbs left that I am psy&#99&#104&#101d for! I hope to finish off the list before my dep&#97&#114&#116ure to Font on Dec. 20! C’monnnnnnnnn <s></s>weather!

A&#32&#109&#97ssive video with big paw, dreamtime, and la proue &#99&#111&#109ng soon!

~Paul
